NIGEL SHAW graduated with Distinction from Laine Theatre Arts – Epsom UK. Upon retiring from professionally performing with most of the major celebrities of the time, he moved to Sydney and became an Australian Citizen in 2000. It was a natural choice for Nigel to progress into the realm of costume design and construction within the Australian Entertainment Industry. Nigel has been involved with most major musical theatre, TV and stage productions on both land and sea for over 25 years, as well as dressing major Australian and International artists including Lady Gaga | Monster Ball tour, Kylie Minogue | Dubai F1, Harry Styles, Olivia Newton-John, Kelly Rowland, George Michael, Elton John, Dame Edna, & Jason Derulo to name just a few.
His many costume designs or creations can be seen in musical theatre productions around the world including Moulin Rouge! the Musical, Global Creatures (2021 – ) 9 productions around the globe, SIX the Musical (LWAA 2019-2025 tours), Elvis! the Musical (2023), MAMMA MIA! the Musical (LWAA – 2017 & 2023), '& Juliet' (2023), Pippin (2021), Hamilton the Musical (2019), Frozen (Disney Australia -2020), Muriel’s Wedding (2020), Beautiful: The Carole King musical, Aladdin (Disney Australia), Love Never Dies (Japan tour), King Kong the Musical, Dr Zhivago, Carmen (Southern Opera New Zealand), Magic arena spectaculars. Nigel has designed over 30 live production shows here in Australia | Oceania including Australian homegrown entertainment at the Reef Casino – Cairns, The Sydney Showboats on Sydney Harbour, P&O cruises – Australia.
His work as an Associate Costume Designer was awarded the coveted Australian Green Room award in 2022 for Musical Theatre Design with Gabriella Slade for the production of SIX the Musical | Australia.
NIGEL SHAW began designing and making costumes back in 1995.
Coming from a background of dance, Nigel has the advantage over his peers. Taking all of his knowledge on movement and restriction aspects into account when designing costumes, he has an expertise that allows him to meet an individual client's needs and create a custom made to order garment.
He possesses a talent for envisaging unique looks and creating completely original production show costumes for entire casts.
