During the last few years MARK KRISTIAN has become a much sought after Compere and Presenter for Corporate Events, Awards Ceremonies and Product Launches.
He has been awarded the prestigious MO AWARD as 'Compere Of The Year' on 3 occasion ('97, '98, 2000) and also the ACE AWARD as 'Compere Of The Year' twice ('99 & 2000).
MARK was honoured to be invited to host the 3rd Annual ACE AWARDS Presentation Ceremony in 2000, for which he received unanimous acclaim.
Some of the other major companies who have hired MARK to act as host for their Award's Nights/Product Launches and Events include...
In 1997, MARK appeared in the Australian production of the Off Broadway Musical "PAGEANT". MARK received universal praise for his portrayal of Frankie Cavalier, the sleazy and deliciously tacky host of this marvellous comedy.
The show, which is basically a spoof on American Beauty Pageants and their sometimes 'weird' contestants, has a somewhat unusual 'twist' in that all the 'female contestants' are actually played by men. The show also starred Ignatius Jones, Grant Whitfield, Tyler Copin, Jason Langley, Hugh Monroe and Sam Wilcox, was directed by Richard Wherret and produced by Harry M. Miller.
Critics acclaimed MARK's performance as being "...razzling, outrageous, dizzy; ...boldly theatrical and assuredly disciplined; ...he set the tone for the fun night which followed; ...a crowning achievement". MARK is featured on the Australian Cast recording of the show, which is distributed through Polygram.
Since the age of five MARK KRISTIAN has been a performer.
In the ensuing 28 years, he has spread his special brand of music and joy to people all over the world and encompassed and excelled in almost every aspect of the Entertainment Industry.
As a child growing up in the small Northern NSW country town of Wauchope, he was bitten by the 'showbiz bug' and began his singing career performing in local concerts and Variety Shows. This eventually led to appearing on nationally televised Children's programmes such as "Happy Go Round", "It's Now", "The Super Saturday Surprise Show", "Harry & Ralph" and "Simon Townsend's Wonder World".
At the ripe old age of 16, he moved to Sydney and began his Entertainment apprenticeship in earnest, quickly establishing himself as a much sought after act on the lucrative Sydney Cabaret circuit. MARK was often called upon to be the 'support performer' for visiting International stars such as Max Bygraves, Reg Varney, Ronnie Corbett, Cilla Black, Petula Clarke, and Phyllis Diller. In 1989 he became a featured performer on "The Bert Newton Show" for Network 7, earning a reputation as one of the most popular regulars on the show. In 1990 MARK won his first MO AWARD as Australia's Best New Talent.
A visiting American Agent, who was impressed by MARK's abilities, signed him for a six-month contract as a featured Guest Entertainer for the US based company PRINCESS CRUISES. The experience was invaluable and the destinations amazing, so MARK remained with the company for three years, during which time he gained the nickname "Mr. Entertainment" from his American audiences as he travelled throughout the world.
Wherever he found himself performing audiences greeted his dynamic vocal ability, energetic performance and sense of fun with the same enthusiasm that had endeared him to Australian audiences since he was as a child.
Arriving back in Australia in 1993, MARK was contracted to perform in the David Atkins/Gordon Frost Organisation production of the hit musical "GREASE" throughout his home country as well as New Zealand. He subsequently reprised this role in a revival of the show for the opening of the KAD Theatre in Thailand in 1995.
During 1995/96, MARK's status within the Entertainment Industry increased as he continued to enjoy success as a Cabaret performer both locally and overseas; making guest appearances on Cruise Ships in the Asia/Pacific rim, combined with invitations to appear in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Manila.
Also during this period, MARK began performing in the guise of 'Compere' or 'MC' for major shows and corporate events. He quickly gained notoriety as a host and was subsequently awarded his second MO AWARD in 1997 as 'Compere Of The Year'.
1997 also saw MARK take on the lead role of 'Frankie Cavalier' in the Australian production of the Off-Broadway musical "PAGEANT" produced by Harry M. Miller. Critics acclaimed his performance as being "..razzling, outrageous, dizzy; ...boldly theatrical and assuredly disciplined; ...he set the tone for the fun night which followed; ...a crowning achievement...". MARK features on the Australian Cast Recording of this show, distributed through Polygram.
In 1998 MARK was again awarded 'Compere Of The Year' in the MO AWARDS (his third) and continued to appear regularly on television shows such as "Good Morning Australia" and "The Midday Show with Kerri Ann Kennerley". As a Compere, he hosted functions and Awards Presentations for the likes of AMP, Fujitsu, Lend Lease, State Transit, Hewlett Packard and Shishedo. MARK also began touring in the acclaimed production "Christmas In Cabaret" with fellow MO AWARD winner Shelly White - which has since become part of his annual calendar.
With the introduction of the ACE (Australian Club Entertainment) AWARDS in 1998, MARK's peers voted him as recipient of the Inaugural 'Compere Of The Year' Award. He also became a television presenter for Telemall Shopping, hosting advertorials for varying products on shows such as "Good Morning Australia", "Bright Ideas" and "Infobreak".
To coincide with the Sydney Olympics in 2000, COCA-COLA contracted MARK to act as their 'front man' for a 17-day promotion at Darling Harbour. As the irrepressible 'Pin Professor - Peter Pervus', MARK was seen on Television programmes internationally (over 50!), including "Good Morning America" and "Today" with Katie Couric for NBC. In addition, he toured nationally as the resident host of "The Wonderful World Of Pets", alongside television personality Dr Harry Cooper for Pedigree Pal/Whiskas/Exelpet. Once again he was awarded a MO AWARD for 'Compere Of The Year' (his fourth) and also an ACE AWARD in the same category (his second). MARK was honoured to be invited to host the 3rd Annual ACE AWARDS ceremony, for which he received unanimous acclaim.
Today, MARK retains his position as one of the most popular and respected performers in Australia, with continuing invitations to perform abroad for many International Cruise Lines, as well as being a renowned Cabaret act and Compere locally.
