Nicky Whelan is probably best known for her role as ‘Pepper’ on the Australian TV soap series Neighbours, the longest running drama production on Australian television. Neighbours helped Nicky to raise her profile to new heights both locally and internationally and in 2006 she left the show in pursuit of overseas roles, recently making an appearance on comedian David Spade’s ‘Comedy Central’ on MTV. Nicky’s intelligence, obvious beauty and down-to-earth attitude guarantee that she makes an impact wherever she goes.
Regularly photographed for newspapers and magazines, Nicky’s profile is growing by the minute. She continues to take acting and voice training classes and is keen to focus her career towards acting. Nicky’s combination of talented acting skills, enviable good looks and down to earth attitude, mean she is fast becoming one of Australia’s most popular up and coming international personalities.
Over the years Nicky has proven that her talent extends beyond acting; she is experienced across many areas which allows her to adapt to any situation. She is a television presenter, fashion model and experienced event host and MC.
Prior to Nicky’s TV presenting roles she worked as a full-time fashion model for over five years. Nicky modeled on Nine Networks ‘Sale of the Century’ and has graced the covers of some of our best known fashion magazines. She featured in an Inside Sport edition in a full page colour spread and in 2004 was announced as the Inside Sport Model of the Year. Keen to start her television career, she had her first big break in 2003 when she hosted the Nickelodeon Channel, which ran daily for 2 weeks. Kids voted for their favourite Nickelodeon host and Nicky tied for first place; this showcased the beginning of her growing popularity.
In 2004 Nicky gained more valuable TV experience and furthered her passion for acting, playing her role as Chrissie on Network Ten’s Telemovie, Russell Coight’s Celebrity Challenge.
Later that year Nicky landed a regular television co-hosting job with Seven Network’s ‘Coxy’s Big Break’–a travel and lifestyle series for Melbourne which has seen her travel to many locations.
In addition, Nicky also co-presented on Channel 10’s Beyond the Boundary. The program, aired over 25 weeks, gives fans an entertaining glimpse into the world of AFL stars, explores life after football and what the legends of the past are doing now.
In 2005 Nicky became the host for Network Seven’s ‘Melbourne Woman’–a television program which provides a weekly wrap on Melbourne’s social scene, health and fitness tips, fashion makeovers and real estate advice.
In 2006, Mercedes Australian Fashion Week (MAFW) chose Nicky to host the msn.com’s global web cast. In this role Nicky interviewed international designers, buyers and models and provided show reviews that were uploaded daily for millions of fashion lovers around the world. Horse racing fans would also recognize Nicky, having been the face of Moonee Valley and Night Racing host for five years running.
Nicky’s vast experience as a television host, actress, MC and model have developed her into an extremely versatile and successful entertainer.
