About Los Románticos
Mariachi Los Románticos play Mexican folk music with a line up of Spanish vocals, guitar, Mexican bass, trumpet, violin and stunningly embroidered traditional uniforms. A nine piece including two trumpets, three violins and percussion is also available.
Los Románticos has performed at many festivals such as The Queenscliff Music Festival, Pako Festa, and was a highlight of the 2004 Port Fairy Folk Festival, featuring on the premiere screening of Coxy's Big Break on Channel 7 (filmed at Port Fairy), as well as Channel 7's Postcards. Los Romanticos have also appeared on channel 7's ‘Last Man Standing’. Los Románticos was also a feature of every T.V. station's [7,9,10 and the ABC's] 2004 Australia Day Celebrations' presentation. We have recently performed interstate at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) World Music Café, as part of the Brisbane Ethnic Music and Culture program, and regularly in Brisbane and Perth for the local Central American communities.
In 2005 Los Románticos was recorded live in concert at the ABC's Awaki Auditorim in Melbourne and subsequently broadcast on Radio National's ‘Music Deli’.
In May of 2005 Los Románticos combined with Geelong's ‘Bay City Strings’ a 16 piece youth orchestra, culminating in one amazing Mexican Fiesta!
We also perform in schools as a part of Pan Events (who scheduled much of the Sydney Olympics' music program) Cultural Infusion Program and get a great response from the kids who find our music very fun and engaging.
The Salvadorian members of Los Románticos left El Salvador 16 years ago searching for a better life. On arrival to our shores, brothers Willíam and Julio with their father José, began to recreate their musical identity and play the Mariachi music of their homeland. Their songs embody the essence of México, telling stories of yesterday, today and tomorrow.
